As the new year passed, many teams stood pat while others made very minimal moves, but now with only about 7 weeks until pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training, many teams will start to heat up again. The Rays have just announced they have come to terms with right-handed slugger Pat Burrell for a 2 year deal worth $16 million. Burrell will serve as the main Designated Hitter for the Rays, but you could see him in the outfield once in a while as well.
The Twins signed knuckle ball pitcher R.A. Dickey to a minor league deal, Clark will remain with the D-Backs, Proctor signed a deal that will land him with the Marlins, the Dodgers and Jones will be parting ways while the 10-time Gold Glove winner couldn’t even be called a respectable player in LA; Turbow, who once was a force with the Milwaukee Brewers signed a minor league deal with Texas, and the A’s seem to be in line to nab Giambi. Not too bad for holiday spending with economic troubles.
