The Mets finalized a trade that saw JJ Putz get sent to the New York Mets. I like the move but am a little weary of it at the same time. Puts showed an inability to throw strikes at times this past season, but faired well enough to be pursued by quite a few teams during this off season. But one thing is for sure, if something were to happen to Rodriguez, Putz is your backup closer, and a pretty decent one at that. Did the Mets give too much up for this safety net? No, the only “everyday” player the Mets lost of Joe Smith, who is a little easier replaced then K-Rod, and the reason the Mets have failed to get to the playoffs the last two seasons is not because of offense or defense, but simply innings 7-9.
