As expected there were many teams that had to non-tender players either because of performance or financial situations right now. There was one name that really stuck out which was Ty Wigginton that was part of the Houston Astros team for the last year and a half. Wigginton has put up pretty solid numbers not only playing the hot corner but played left field when Carlos Lee went down this past year. The last three years he has hit at least 20 home runs along with at least 55 RBI with a team that was on the lower end of scoring runs. Other known names on the non-tendered list were Takashi Saito, Johnny Gomes, Tim Redding, Kevin Cash and Angel Berroa.
Saito may be the second best deal among the non-tendered players as he has a career 1.95 ERA over 180 Major League appearances. For teams looking for a quality closer without having the high price tag, Saito may be worth that risk.
