With many teams starting to finally give out contracts to free agents, a thought that has come to mind, What are the risks involved with signing these players to long term contracts? Take a look at C.C. Sabathia's numbers for instance, only three of the eight years in the majors he has pitched 200+ innings, and he flourished in his time in the national league. Signing him is still considered a high-risk high reward type deal, because of the amount of money paid out annually as well with the risks of signing a pitcher.
So what is it that makes up a championship team? It is not always having the best (New York Yankees), but as Herb Brooks (USA Olympic Hockey Coach, Miracle on Ice) once said, it’s having the right players. The Minnesota Twins are a small market team usually not having big names in terms of signings, but there have been a couple stars that have come out of Minnesota. Which brings you to think, maybe it really comes down to the coaching staffs of a respected ball club. Keep an eye out on what happens with these free agent signings and which players will be busts.
