It took some time, but the Angels have finally extended an offer to Mark Teixeira. The Angels offered Teixeira a deal very close to what the Nationals offered the slugging first baseman, which was around the ballpark of 8 years and 160 million dollars. The All-Star has been one of the most consistent hitters and fielders in the league since he emerged in 2003. Besides his rookie year, Teixeira has hit at least 30 home runs, and driven in at least 100 RBI while putting up a t batting average of no lower than .282.
What is it that the Angels give him that the Nationals cannot? A team that will compete for years, and the chance to get a World Series, the Nationals haven’t won more than 81 games in a season and put up their worst efforts by far this past season by only winning 59 games. As tempting as it would be to be closer to his hometown, I think Teixeira might look for someplace a little closer to getting through the playoffs. Do not be surprised if the Red Sox make an offer but do not get into a bidding war as they have a full infield already. The Yankees may offer the slugger a contract, but that remains to be seen as they acquired Nick Swisher who can play first base.
